IMPORTANCE OF ART
I believe that tax dollars need to include art, music and theatre classes. Even though many people see these classes as just a “throw away class” or “study hall”, they have a very influential and important role in our many years of learning. For one, they all help teach us the creative aspect of thinking. While core classes focus on the hard cold straight forward facts like math for example, 2+2 will always equal 4. In these creative classes, they teach us different ways to view and interpret things. You might be told to draw an apple that is sitting in front of you and draw the best interpretation of a real apple, while the person sitting next to you could draw a complete abstract apple with a face and arms and it would still be accepted as it is their interpretation of how the apple looks to them or they want it to look. These classes show us how to approach things in different ways, they show us that many problems and have more than one way to solve it in life. The classes also expand our knowledge in a way that can’t be brought into core classes like math and english. This is done by using classes such as Creative Photography which presents us with tasks to take photos of certain objects or scenarios from different point of views making students think about all the possibilities to look at something, or Draw 2 where you must make certain drawings based on subjects like something meaningful to you or topics that are present in our current time.
